Introduction A fictional flash delivery service app for ultra-fast paint delivery. For when you really need to repaint you house or become the new Rembrandt within 15 minutes. I started this project in order to go through the various steps of UX design, from idea, research, user flow and wireframe to prototyping. Concept This project started with the idea to work on a case that included multiple UX design steps. From the beginning I wanted to create a flash delivery app. A trendy, and kind of superfluous, concept that promises to deliver items within an ultra-short timeframe of 10-20 minutes. From an UX design perspective these applications consist of numerous interesting interactions that can add complexity to the project. The next idea was to create the application for a ridiculous but also logical demand. Thus the idea to “Deliver paint before it can dry!” (or in a more acceptable unit of time: 15 minutes) was created. The idea came from having small projects around the house that suddenly require specific paint or the sudden interest in painting after browsing art on the internet. By looking at current flash delivery applications and a brief research into the demands and troubles of paint and the lack of paint, a concept application, logically called, “Paint Now” was born. This application facilitates the delivery of various types of paint in various amounts though a clean but playful interface. User flow Through brainstorm sessions the interactions between the user and app have been designed. By asking questions like: “How would a person that needs specific paint browse the app?”, the functions and flow were determined. The main interactions have been put into a flowchart in order to create an overview of the functionality of the application. As result the application lets users browse colors, add colors to their favorites, read the history of a specific color and match colors to create a color profile. Furthermore, the user can view past orders, re-order favorite orders and trace the delivery process of the current order. Design & Prototyping A simple greyscale wireframe was used to work on the initial layout design and to test the previously established user flow. Throughout this process some interactions have been adjusted to improve the user experience. Hereafter, a mock-up of the application was designed. Through the use of colorful gradients and rounded elements a playful layout was created. Finally, a clickable prototype was made to emulate the workings of the “Paint Now” app. Various screens used for displaying the main functions have been linked to create a sense of how the actual app might function. The project makes use of various functions of Figma, such as responsive constraints, components and variants.
